Thermal runaway in the generator set refers to the phenomenon that when the battery is charged at a constant voltage, the floating charging current and temperature of the battery undergo an accumulated mutual increase, resulting in the battery being damaged due to excessive temperature. When this phenomenon occurs, it may foreshadow problems inside the equipment. Therefore, everyone needs to understand the causes of thermal out of control in order to further troubleshoot the faulty parts.

1. Exothermic reaction of oxygen complex. The oxygen composite reaction of the oxygen produced by the positive electrode at the negative electrode is an exothermic reaction. If the heat emitted by the reaction cannot be released, the temperature of the battery will increase.

2. The battery structure is not conducive to heat dissipation. The structural features of valve-controlled sealed lead-acid batteries are sealed, lean electrolyte, and tightly assembled with ultra-fine glass fiber diaphragm, which are not conducive to heat dissipation. That is, this battery is not like a liquid-rich battery, which can dissipate heat in the battery through exhaust gas, a large amount of electrolyte and a non-close arrangement between the plates.

3. The ambient temperature is high. The higher the ambient temperature, the worse it is to dissipate heat from the battery, and the increase in temperature will increase the floating charging current of the battery, and the floating charging current and temperature will increase each other. Therefore, charging equipment should have a temperature compensation function. That is, the floating charging voltage is lowered when the temperature rises.

4. The floating charging voltage is too high. If the floating charge voltage is set too high, the floating charge current will increase, causing the battery temperature to rise.

The thermal runaway of the generator set is often due to the above four major reasons. If the reason is still not found, consult a professional or contact the manufacturer for help.
