In order to alleviate the tightening situation of China's power supply, the new installed power generation capacity will reach 70 million kilowatts this year, and at the same time, the production of about 25,000 kilometers of transmission lines and a transformer capacity of about 140 million kilovolts per annum will be put into operation. The pace of power grid development has been significantly accelerated.
A forecast for China's power supply demand this year by China Electric Power Union recently showed that driven by the continued rapid growth of the national economy, the growth rate of electricity demand is expected to be about 13%, and the electricity consumption will reach about 24,56 billion kWh, an increase of 282.5 billion kWh over the previous year. Among them, the overall electricity consumption growth in the Northwest, South and East China power grids is still in the leading position, with the growth rates reaching more than 14% respectively; the growth in the Central China power grid and Northeast China power grids is relatively slow, but it can still reach more than 10%.
It is predicted that China's electricity demand will increase by about 11% in 2006, and its electricity consumption will reach about 275 billion kilowatt-hours. At that time, the situation of tight power supply and demand is expected to ease, and only some areas will be slightly nervous. The gap is mainly concentrated in several regions in East China and southern China, with roughly 800 to 10 million kilowatts during peak summer.
It is known that last year was a year of rapid growth in China's electricity demand. The electricity consumption of the whole society increased by 14.9% over the previous year, and the annual power generation growth rate reached 14.8%. The net increase in installed capacity of power generation was 49.29 million kilowatts, an increase of 12.6% over the previous year, which is the relatively high growth level in the past decade.
