Generator setThermal runaway refers to the cumulative mutual growth between the battery's float current and temperature during constant voltage charging, resulting in battery damage due to excessive temperature. When this phenomenon occurs, it may indicate a problem within the equipment. Therefore, everyone needs to understand the cause of thermal runaway in order to further troubleshoot the faulty component.

1. Oxygen recombination reaction releases heat. The oxygen recombination reaction of the oxygen produced by the positive electrode that occurs at the negative electrode is an exothermic reaction. If the heat released by this reaction cannot be released, it will increase the temperature of the battery.

2. The battery structure is not conducive to heat dissipation. The structural characteristics of valve-controlled sealed lead-acid batteries are sealing, poor electrolyte, and tight fit with ultra-fine glass fiber separators, which are not conducive to heat dissipation. That is, this battery cannot pass through exhaust gas and a large amount of electrolyte like a flooded battery. And the plates are not tightly arranged to dissipate the heat in the battery.

3. The ambient temperature is high. The higher the ambient temperature, the more unfavorable it is for battery heat dissipation, and an increase in temperature will increase the float current of the battery, and the float current and temperature will increase each other. Therefore, charging equipment should have temperature compensation function. That is, lower the float voltage when the temperature rises.

4. The float charge voltage is too high. Setting the float voltage too high will increase the float current and cause the battery temperature to rise.

Thermal runaway in a generator set is often due to the above four major reasons. If the cause still cannot be found, consult a professional or contact the manufacturer for help. During the application process, Haixing also recommends that everyone avoid the occurrence of the above four phenomena and lay the foundation for the good operation of the generator set.
