According to news, French energy group EDF plans to test four tidal power generating units with a total capacity of 2MW installed near Brea Island on the 31st.
EDF introduced that the total investment in the project is nearly 40 million euros, and the company will receive subsidies from the European Union and French environment and energy agency Ademe.
The company OpenHydro is responsible for designing the turbine units, while French shipbuilding company DCNS is responsible for assembling the equipment.
The turbine generator is a new type of generator that obtains electricity from ocean currents. The energy generated by the tidal turbines will be converted by a set of rectifiers and transported to the mainland via underwater cables.
Preparations will be made for the implementation of the project. Local authorities will fully support this development and implementation.
Tidal power generation is to build a dam in a bay or a tidal estuary to form a reservoir, and place a hydroelectric generator set in or next to the dam. The second type is a single-bank two-way power station. Using a reservoir, it can generate electricity during both high and low tides, but cannot generate electricity during flat tides. The Zhenkou Tidal Power Station in Dongguan County, Guangdong Province and the Jiangxia Tidal Power Station in Wenling County, Zhejiang Province are of this type.
The third type is a double-bank two-way power station. It uses two adjacent reservoirs, so that one reservoir receives water during high tide and the other reservoir releases water during low tide. In this way, the water level of the former reservoir is always higher than that of the latter reservoir, so the former is called the upper reservoir, and the latter is called the upper reservoir. It is called lower reservoir. The hydroelectric generator set is placed in the dam between the two reservoirs. The water level difference between the two reservoirs is always maintained, so it can generate electricity throughout the day.
