Haixing will introduce to you what cave erosion is.

Cavitation refers to the surface where the outer wall of the wet cylinder liner of the diesel engine and the coolant contact is destroyed into some needle-shaped holes. These holes gradually expand and deepen, and finally form deep holes or cracks; the holes are generally very clean and have no corrosion products.

Haixing summarizes that people generally believe that cave erosion is caused by high-frequency vibration of the cylinder liner. Mechanical vibration causes changes in the cooling fluid pressure, causing bubbles to occur in the cooling fluid and breakage. This process is the cause of cave erosion.

Since there is gas dissolved in the coolant, when the high-frequency vibration of the cylinder causes the local pressure of the coolant to drop to a certain critical value, the gas dissolved in the coolant is separated in the form of bubbles. These bubbles flow to the high-pressure zone and collapse occurs when the pressure exceeds the bubble pressure. The gas in the bubble state is reliquefied or dissolved in the coolant, and the volume suddenly decreases. The coolant moves at high speed toward the center of the bubble and produces a water hit, which produces impact force and high temperature, and spreads to the surroundings in the form of pressure waves. When acting on the outer surface of the cylinder liner, it produces great impact, squeeze and high temperature. Under the repeated action of this force, the outer surface of the cylinder liner of the diesel generator develops fatigue and gradually falls off, becoming numb and needle-shaped small holes, and gradually expands with the progress of cavernous corrosion.

Haixing reminds everyone to pay attention to the cavitation of diesel generator sets during daily maintenance, and repair or replace parts in a timely manner to avoid failure during operation and affecting the progress of production.
