According to news reports, Qingdao currently has 23 sewage treatment plants in operation, with a total treatment capacity of 1.7 million cubic meters per day. The annual biogas power generation capacity of Maidao Sewage Treatment Plant is more than 9 million kilowatt-hours. Based on the average annual electricity consumption of 1,200 kilowatt-hours per household in Qingdao, it is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 7,000 households. According to reports, Qingdao's sewage treatment plant ranks among the top in the country in terms of sludge digestion and stabilization, biogas power generation, and waste heat recovery and utilization. The Urban Water Supply and Drainage Association plans to hold an on-site meeting in 2016 to promote Qingdao's experience. The reasonable disposal and comprehensive utilization of sludge, biogas and waste heat have significant economic, social and environmental benefits. Taking Maidao Sewage Treatment Plant as an example, the sludge produced during the sewage treatment process is reduced and stabilized through anaerobic digestion process, achieving a sludge reduction of nearly 40%, which greatly saves sludge transportation and subsequent disposal costs; Oxygen digestion produces approximately six million cubic meters of biogas annually, 85% of which is used for combined heat and power generation. The motor and waste heat boiler produce electric energy and recover waste heat. The generated electric energy is used by the factory for its own production. 60% of the whole plant's power consumption comes from biogas power generation. The annual biogas power generation is more than 9 million kilowatt-hours, which is equivalent to the annual output of each household in Qingdao. Calculating the average electricity consumption of 1,200 kilowatt hours, it is equivalent to the electricity consumption of 7,000 households for a year. The remaining biogas is used for thermal energy production through gas boilers for heating of the digestion process itself, showering for factory employees, and heating in winter to balance the shortage of waste heat. This is equivalent to saving nearly one million cubic meters of natural gas every year. Since the plant was put into operation , no fuel was purchased for process operation. Over the past seven years, the Maidao Plant has used biogas to generate electricity, reducing carbon dust emissions by 16,255.27 tons, CO2 emissions by 58,387.51 tons, SO2 emissions by 1,792.86 tons, and nitrogen oxide emissions by 896.43 tons. The environmental benefits are extremely considerable. New energy is an inevitable trend in current social development, and it is the focus of our transformation as Haixing people! ! !
