The cooling forms of diesel generators are generally divided into three types: air, hydrogen, and water. For general synchronous generators, their cooling system is closed, and the cooling medium is used in circulating.
1) Air cooling - Air cooling is used by fan air supply. Cold air is used to blow the end of the diesel generator set winding, the generator set stator and rotor to dissipate heat. The cold air absorbs heat and turns into hot air. After the breath between the stator and the rotor first merges, it is discharged through the air duct of the iron core and cools through the cooler. The cooled air is then sent to the generator by the fan to circulate for cooling. Generally, the machine is air-cooled medium and small synchronous generator sets. ,
2) Hydrogen cooling - Hydrogen cooling uses hydrogen as the cooling medium. The heat dissipation performance of hydrogen is better than that of air. Most large steam turbine generator sets use hydrogen cooling.
3) Water cooling - Water cooling uses the method of internal cooling of double water by stator and rotor.
The cold water external water system of the stator water system flows through the water pipe to the water inlet ring installed on several stator seats, and flows to each coil through the insulated pipe, absorbs heat, and then collects it into the water outlet ring installed on the stand through the insulated water pipe, and then discharges it into the water system outside the generator for cooling.
The cooling of the rotor water system first enters the water inlet support installed at the shaft end of the exciter side, then flows into the central hole of the rotor shaft, flows to the water collector along several meridional holes, and then flows to each coil through the insulated tube. After cold water absorbs heat, it flows into and out of the water tank through the insulated pipe, and then flows to the water outlet support through the drain hole on the outer edge of the water outlet tank, and leads out from the water outlet main pipe.
Since the heat dissipation performance of water is much higher than that of air and hydrogen, the generator sets of newly built large and medium-sized generator manufacturers generally use water cooling.
